Responsible for calling the Fire Department; alerting employees and escorting visitors to the outside area of safe refuge.

FIRE

PRE-EMERGENCY DUTIES:

1.   Read General Information: Fire

2. Have telephone numbers of the Safety Director and Security readily available.

 

EMERGENCY DUTIES - Upon notification of a fire emergency:

1.   Call the Fire Department.

2.   If there are any visitors in the waiting area, instruct them to evacuate the building.

3.   Instruct all occupants to evacuate the building. For Example:  “Please evacuate the building immediately and proceed to the (SAFE REFUGE AREA AS DESIGNATED BY THE SAFETY DIRECTOR).”  REPEAT.

4.   Grab visitor log and lead visitors to the designated Safe Refuge Area. Make sure all employees are evacuating the building as you exit. Close all doors behind you.

 

EARTHQUAKE

PRE-EMERGENCY PLANNING:

DURING AN EARTHQUAKE: REMEMBER DUCK, COVER & HOLD

1.  Get under a desk, table or other sturdy object and hold on; or brace yourself against a wall. Protect your head.

2.   Stay away from windows, bookcases, filing cabinets and any objects that may fall or shatter. Do not dash for exits.

3.   Do not smoke or use matches or lighters in case of gas leaks.

4.   Do not be surprised if electricity goes off.

 

AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE:

1.   Check on visitors. Assist as needed.

2.   Call appropriate outside emergency services – for example: Fire Department, Paramedics, utility companies, etc. If communications are not working, use a cellular phone.

3.  If evacuation is ordered, assist in assembling visitors at the Safe Refuge area outside and away from the building. This safe refuge area cannot be pre-selected. It will depend upon damage caused by the earthquake. Generally, it is safer to remain inside the building.

4.   Listen to the radio 1620 AM CitiSOUNDS for emergency reports/information. Keep visitors quiet and calm. Keep occupants informed to prevent spreading of rumors.

5.   Cooperate with Public Safety officials.

BOMBTHREAT

PRE-EMERGENCY PLANNING:

1.  Read General Information:  Bomb Threat

2.  Keep copies of the Bomb Threat posted at your desk.

EMERGENCY ACTIONS:  

1.  Upon notification of a bomb threat, notify the Safety Director then, upon his direction, notify the Police Department.

2.   Follow instructions given to you by the Police or Safety Director.

3.   You may be instructed to assist in telephoning Department Managers. If instructions are to search without evacuation, call the Department Managers and instruct them to search their area for anything suspicious. Remind them not to touch anything unusual or out of place. Have them report all findings to the Safety Director.

4.   If instructions are to search with evacuation, call the Department Managers and instruct them to search the area for anything suspicious. Remind them not to touch anything unusual or out of place. Have them report all findings to the Safety Director or the Police Department.

5.   Make an evacuation announcement, instructing employees where the Safe Refuge area is, as designated by the Safety Director.

6.   If a suspicious object is located within the reception area, immediately evacuate. Take the phone list with you and make calls from a safe location.
